FAQ
What is "Horrors Untold"?
It is a first-of-its-kind book that is part nonfiction, part fiction, and part game. Roughly 40% of the experience is a guide to Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights; another 40% is an original, creepy story; and the remaining 20% is a series of puzzles and riddles.
Is this official Halloween Horror Nights merchandise?
No, it is not – we are totally independent from Universal Studios or its parent company, Comcast (who holds all copyrights to HHN and its related properties).
Who made this?
LumiNarrative did. A brand-new company composed of lifelong theme park fans, it sits at the nexus of storytelling and innovation. Our dream is simple: to create new, immersive products and experiences that ignite the passion of theming enthusiasts around the world. We use narrative to capture the essence of what being at the parks is like, and then we deliver that magic right to your home.
Our captivating experiences are designed to spark wonder, fuel imagination, and transport you to different worlds, both the ones you already love and those you have yet to explore. It is a journey meant to light the way to the future of themed entertainment, and we can’t wait to take it with you.
What is your return policy?
We accept returns if you contact us within 10 days of receiving your shipment. Product must be in like-new condition with no signs of wear or tear, and refunds will go back to the original payment method. Please note that return postage will need to be paid by the customer, and the original postage cannot be refunded (if applicable). Please use our contact form or email us at connect@horrorsuntold.com to get started.
Do I need to be an HHN fan in order to enjoy the experience?
Absolutely not. The creepy atmosphere and interactive puzzles will still make for a compelling, immersive experience – it’s just that you’ll learn a bit about one of the biggest scare events in the country along the way (just as HHN fans will learn a thing or two about the history of Halloween and Christmas as they go).
How do the puzzles work?
Each story thread – the nonfiction and fiction one – has its own series of puzzles that can be completed one chapter at a time; then, once you reach the end, the overarching solution will unlock an epilogue.
(And who knows – there may be some hidden puzzle surprises in there, waiting to be discovered, too.)
What do I need to solve the puzzles?
A pencil or pen, scissors (yes, you will be asked to cut a few elements out of the book), and a mirror. Oh, yeah – we also recommend keeping a highlighter handy, which can additionally help with those key HHN passages you’d like to revisit later.
Is this like a game that I can play multiple times or with multiple people?
No, Horrors Untold is an immersive experience meant for one reader, not a standalone game that can be picked up and played multiple times – once you complete the puzzles, the book won’t be the same (and neither, hopefully, will you).
Think of it like the ultimate trophy to keep on your shelf, next to all your other most-beloved HHN keepsakes (for the puzzle portion, that is; the book portion can, of course, be reread as many times as you’d like, either to further decode the mysterious story or to bone up on your Horror Nights knowledge).
Do I HAVE to do the puzzles?
No, not at all – there is a complete story contained within the pages of the book. However, if you want to extend the experience and expand its immersion, the gameplay aspect will do just that… as well as provide a series of final epilogues to the narrative.
How do I tackle the gameplay and reading orders?
You can do it any way you want, but we strongly recommend that you do them together, in order, chapter by chapter; the overall experience was designed with this story path in mind, and it is the most immersive – and the most fulfilling – this way.
How long will it take me to complete everything?
Horrors Untold is 322 pages long, consisting of approximately 100,000 words – reading it is like making your way through a full-fledged novel. However, it is also designed in such a way that you can easily go through only the HHN or original components in a “speed run,” if you so desired.
Should you save all the puzzles for last, as opposed to completing them as you progress from chapter to chapter, you can expect to spend anywhere from two to four hours solving them.
Does "Horrors Untold" cover HHN in Hollywood (or elsewhere)?
While the overriding focus of the book is on Orlando, it does spend a little bit of time touching upon all the other versions of the hallowed event: in Hollywood, Singapore, Japan, China, and, even, the upcoming location at Las Vegas.
